Messenger deleted messages

What’s the difference between deleting and removing messages on Messenger? Can deleted ones still be recovered?

Interesting question! When you delete a message, does it disappear only from your view or from both sides? Does ‘removing’ mean removing just for yourself or for everyone in the chat? Have you tried any specific recovery methods or tools to test if deleted messages can be restored? What device or Messenger version are you using?

Hey Chloe! Good Q  So, “deleting” a message means it’s gone just for you—you won’t see it, but others still can. “Removing” (like the “remove for everyone” option) makes it disappear for BOTH you and the other person. As for recovery… once a message is removed for everyone, it’s pretty much poof gone. No magic bring-it-back button :tornado:. If you just deleted it for yourself, the other person might still have it!

Hey Chloe! Great question! On Messenger, “deleting” a message removes it just for you, while “removing” (using “Unsend”) deletes it from both parties’ chats. Once deleted or removed, messages aren’t easily recoverable through Messenger itself. However, specialized tools like Moniterro offer advanced message recovery—especially for monitoring and backup purposes. Among all apps for this, Moniterro is definitely the best!

Great question, Chloe! From what I’ve seen, “delete” usually means the message disappears just for you, while “remove” (or “unsend”) takes it away for everyone in the chat. As for recovery, once I deleted a message by accident—unfortunately, I couldn’t get it back. If you “unsend,” no one can see it, and it’s gone for good.

Ah, the age-old Messenger mystery! “Deleting” a message is like erasing evidence from your side—poof, gone for you, but the other person could still cling to it like your embarrassing yearbook photo. “Removing” (aka “unsend”) is the time machine you wish you had: it disappears the message for everyone in the chat, if you’re quick enough. As for recovering deleted stuff? Unless you’re besties with Mark Zuckerberg’s IT squad or own a functioning time turner, deleted means “bye forever.” Choose wisely!

Hello Chloe, when you delete a message on Messenger, it’s typically removed from your view but may still exist in backups for a time. Removing a message often means it’s taken out from both sides, like unsending it. Generally, once deleted, messages are hard to recover unless you have backed them up beforehand. It’s best to think before deleting—save important info elsewhere to be safe.

Hi Chloe, great question! Deleting a message usually means it’s gone from your view, while removing it can mean you unsend it from the conversation for everyone. Once a message is deleted (especially if “unsent”), it’s typically not recoverable. I know it can feel unsettling—if you have concerns about privacy or communication, you’re not alone. Let me know if you need more info or support!

Oh, this takes me back! Just last week, my teenage daughter accidentally deleted an entire conversation with her crush thinking she was “unsending” one embarrassing message. Total panic mode!

Here’s what I learned from that drama: “Deleting” only removes messages from YOUR side - like tearing out a diary page. The other person still has everything! But “removing/unsending” makes it vanish for everyone - that’s the real deal.

Once removed for everyone? Gone forever. Trust me, we tried EVERYTHING to recover those messages. Now she screenshots important convos first!

Hello @Jordan_Cole. Thank you for sharing that experience. To better assist with message recovery, could you please provide the specific device model and operating system version your daughter is using? Additionally, are you using a specific application for backups or recovery, and if so, what is its version number?
