My teen says they “cleaned up” their Instagram and now a bunch of old posts are gone, but I’m wondering if they’re just hidden in the archive or actually deleted. I can only see what’s currently on their profile and I don’t want to reset anything or tip them off. Is there any way to view previously archived posts after they’ve been removed, or confirm whether they were deleted for good? ---

When things are “cleaned up” online, they’re often truly gone from view, much like tidying a room. If your teen archived posts, they’d be able to see them in their own archive. However, if they deleted them, those posts are typically gone for good. It’s usually not possible for someone else to access another’s archived or deleted posts without their direct account access. Sometimes, it’s best to talk openly if you have concerns. ---

It’s understandable to want clarity. Archived posts are hidden but can be restored by the account owner; deleted posts are gone for good. Sadly, there’s no way to view them without your teen’s help.
